What to do at a crash scene

Todays topic is Crashes and what to do if you’re involved in a crash.

As per normal on my blogs, I’m going to base this on my own personal opinion or experience and / or supported from sources, facts and / or legislation quoted for driving on Queensland’s roads.

Crashes. Let’s get the facts!

If you are involved in a crash, you must stop and if you are able, give your contact details to:

• Any other driver 
• Any other person injured in the crash or their representative
• The owner of any property of vehicle that has been damaged from a crash. 

You must report a crash to the police if: 

• A vehicle involved needs to be towed away  
• Any driver involved fails to provide their details  to any other drivers involved in the crash 
• Any person involved is killed or injured 

If police are required to attend the traffic crash, call 000 (triple zero) and request police. If the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) or the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) is also required, please telephone 000 (triple zero) immediately.

Required particulars to collect or offer:

Your name and address 

The name and address of the owner of the vehicle (if you are not the owner)

The vehicle registration number 

Any other information necessary to identify the vehicle 

TIPS:

Keep your Insurance policy details up to date and accurate.

Keep your vehicle insurer details stored on your phones contact list.

Keep your policy details and particulars in the notes section under your insurers contact.

Keep your insurers contact in your favourites list on your phone.

Complete a first aid course.

Notes: 

Take photo’s of the crash site scene. 

Take a picture of the other person/s driving. 

Ask to see the other driver/s licence and take photo’s front and back.

Take plenty of pictures of all vehicle/s involved.

Make notes of the accident at the scene so you remember the particulars if required at a later time.

Open google maps and take a snap shot of crash scene location.
