Hi James here from One 2 Pass, a Caloundra driving school instructor.
As per normal on my blogs, I’m going to base this on my own personal opinion or experience and / or supported from sources, facts and / or legislation quoted for driving on Queensland’s roads.
Today I’m going to talk about my first 3 cars I owned.
My first car that I owned was a 1970’s Suzuki Lj50 Jeep. This powerhouse beast was a whopping 539cc 2 stroke weapon. “Suzi” was a 4wd jeep and went absolutely everywhere on and off road. Certainly not known for its speed, this little LJ was an economical vehicle to own and operate. My Little LJ was my first introduction to owning a jeep and a soft top vehicle. This cool little car was a 539cc 2 stroke engine and sounded like a motorbike on 4 wheels. For a first car learning to drive in to gain my skills and knowledge for driving, this was a perfect vehicle as it wasn’t complicated. I was looking for a fun car for a first car and I would totally recommend the Suzuki brand of jeeps. I have thought about buying a new 2021 Suzuki Jimny as my next driving school vehicle.
My second car was a 1989 Ford Laser GL. I called this car “Red Owl”. Colour was midnight blue and that car was a sweet ride indeed. This was my first car that had four doors. I tinted the windows, added spot lights for night driving and purchased a portable CD player that used a tape deck connection to listen to my cherished tunes…. This car was solid and reliable and truely looked after me.
My third car was my favourite. It was a 1981 Mid wheel base BJ42 Toyota Landcruiser. This vehicle’s nick name was “Summer Lovin”. A tragic mustard yellow 2 seat convertible soft top jeep. This was an amazingly fun car. A diesel truck that was slow and steady, low ranged and once again 4wd. There really was no better feeling then driving “Summer Lovin” day or night. I loved this car to pieces. On a beautiful summers day driving along the beach front to meet up with friends in the park, soft top down, tunes playing, the crunchy fresh air whistling past your ears and the sunlight bursting in on your face, stopping for ice cream or taking the dogs to the beach to go swimming. This car turned heads. Driving at night with the top down sitting at traffic lights you got to check out the stars… It was never that cold even in the middle of winter with the heater on, beanie on, jacket on not to be enjoying “Summer Lovin”. This was a car that I always carried wet weather gear…. On many occasions I got caught out on what started off a beautiful lush sunny day, soft top off the car and driving home and getting caught in the pouring rain. Just perfect!
There have been a few cars since my first Suzuki Jeep. One day I hope to own another rag top 4wd, albeit a CJ Jeep, Toyota Land Cruiser, Mitsubishi Pajero or a Suzuki Jeep. Now I love watching the fast paced Supercars and believe that as a sport, without the safety rules for driving there would be no passion in motor racing. At all times I drive with a safety conscious mindset and I’m very aware of the road rules and following them intently. My aim and goal is to assist you in becoming the safest driver you can become in dealing with each and every situation that can and will happen when driving.
